The Mother of God Christmas Elias Nunnery

The Mother of God Christmas Elias Nunnery is located in the historical block of the city on the right bank of Tura River. The first mention of Elias church comes from the end of 17th century, in 1620 the women nunnery was established here. In 1765-1767 the church was converted into Assumption Church. The temple was reconstructed many times before it reached its nowadays view. In Soviet times the building of the nunnery was used as pawnshop and from 1942 until 2002 it was owned by Tyumen distillery fabric. In 2003 the church was returned to Russian Orthodox Church. Today here are regular services, here is an orphan house for girls and workshop where young girls are taught sewing and bearing a child.
