North Ural State Agrarian University

Initially in this building there was Alexander secondary School founded in Tyumen in 1878. Two-storeyed building was composed in a style of renaissance. It was one of the best educational centers at that time; American traveler George Kennan in his diary compared this school with Massachusetts Technological Institute. In the end of 19th century, there was a mechanic department with a steam engine, physics laboratory with Bell’s, Edison’s and Dolber’s systems, phonograph and chemical laboratory with all the last scientific results. Ivan Slovtsov played a key role in development of Alexander School being its first director. This school has become an alma mater of such people as writer Michail Prishvin, opera singer Andrey Labinsky.  In Soviet time here was Agricultural college where intelligence officer Nikolay Kuznetsov studied. During the Great Patriotic War the body of Vladimir Lenin was moved from Moscow to Tyumen and kept safely in this building. After the war, it was converted into Agricultural institute, than academy and now it has become North Ural State Agrarian University. Still the building of former Alexander secondary School is considered an example of architectural thought of the end of 19th century.
