Park of Siberian Cats

Located in the city center the Siberian Cats Park is one of the most extraordinary parks in Tyumen. It is small, cosy and very green and shady in summer time. There are 12 sculptures of cats and kittens made of cast iron and covered with special golden paint. During the Second World War, in besieged Leningrad there were almost no cats left. Owing to the lack of cats, a lot of rats were bred. Right after the end of the Siege of Leningrad, there was kind of the cat’s mobilization when the cats from Siberia were gathered in order to protect the priceless storages of the Hermitage and other palaces and museums. Tyumen had sent bout 238 cats aged from six months to 5 years to Leningrad. Five thousand cats from Omsk, Tyumen and Irkutsk were sent to Leningrad in total, and the cats honorably accomplished their mission. It is one of the most favorite park of Tyumen citizens.
