Tyumen Holy Trinity Monastery

Tyumen Holy Trinity Monastery is located in the historical center of Tyumen just few minutes of walk from Tura Embankment. The monastery was founded on picturesque bank of Tura River in 1616. Almost a century later in 1708 instead of wooden village a stone one was built and since that time, the Monastery was named after Holy Trinity. The process of building was proceeded under leadership of metropolitan Philophey Leschinsky. Later on he took schema and lived the rest of his life in cloister. After his death in 1727, he was buried at the monastery entrance. During the Soviet times, there was a dormitory, military platoon, city water system control. The monastery was returned to the Tyumen diocese in 1995 and the first service was held here only in 2003. In 2005 the relic of prelate Philophey was exhumed and nowadays are kept in the monastery Peter and Paul Church. In 2007 the square dedicated to him was opened nearby the monastery. Today Holy Trinity Monastery being opened for everyone holds regular service and excursions.
