St. George Ascension Church

This church was erected on the left bank of Tura River on money of parishioners. It was a stone two-storeyed building with a bell tower and two thrones: on the first floor in honor of Saint George and one in honor of Ascension of God on the second. After the October Revolution in 1929 the church was closed and its building was used for the workshop of tanners and chemists. In 1934-35 there was a dormitory for students of driving school and combine operators, later on the building was under governance of Tuymen fur coat fabric. Only in 1996 the building was returned to Tobolsk and Tyumen diocese. Two years later the service was resumed here. Step by step in 2005 the bell tower was restored and in 2006 the church became a member of government program of “Cultural memorials restoration”. Now it is a functioning church that adorns historical center of Tyumen.
